- Speaking as a current owner of the afore-mentioned vehicle:

-
- I used to get around 20-22 when it was new, now it's down around 15. This
- was before and after the engine rebuild (see below), and I still haven't
- quite figured out why it has dropped.

-
- Back in '84 the "flip on the fly 4wd" weren't worth s--t anyway, but I
- prefer the manual locking hubs (at least you *know* it's in).
-
- > 3) Ford V6 engines? Can I get 150K before I need a rebuild?
-
- Possibly.
- The 2.8L in this one is *way* under-powered. Mine was still doing okay, but
- I rebuilt it anyway to try to get some more power out of it (this was at
- 86,000) but found out that the engine is pretty much max'd out as it is.
- A new cam and a re-bore gave me a little more ummph, but not much.
- I drive mine pretty hard also, so that hasn't increased the life expectancy
- any.
-

-
- So-so. Don't try to load down 5th gear too much or very often, it's
- pretty whimpy.

- Sounds like the going rate around here, Denver.

- I bought mine new haven't had any trouble with it, other than the tranny,
- since then. I been happy with it this whole time. I just wish they'd have
- put that 4.0L engine and beefier tranny in it. It could also stand a stiffer
- suspension for anything-resembling-serious off-roading.

- One other thing to check is the tie rod bushing. The original is the cheap
- plastic piece of s--t that wears out (and can't be lubed).
