- Hello,
- Anyone out there own a late model escort with the 1.9L?
- I have an '88.5-'89 (manufactured 8-18-88) and it is running
- hotter every day.
- I used to only have this problem when the temperature was
- above 80, then 70, 60, and finnally the temp guage maxed out
- in slow traffic and it was only 38 F outside. (I can't wait for
- summer!)
-
- the car has 69,000 mi. I have the cooling system flushed
- and checked yearly, i have installed an override switch for
- the radiator fan so i can run it constantly in heavy traffic.
- this seems to work, but it has never run hot in the winter before
- and i am concerned.
-
- the temp send sensor is new, ok.
- fan switch kicks on at 204 F
- i have a 180 F Thermostat for winter and i have plenty of heat.
-
- I use Mobil 1 / T-Plus oil and 89 gasoline, this helps a bit
- i switched to bosch platinum plugs because the standard plugs
- got fried after 10,000 mi.
-
- my cooling system pressurizes ok.
- how do i know if i need a new radiator, i took the current
- one out and blasted it clean at one of those self serve
- car washes.
-
- right now i am perplexed.
- a friend of mine told me to install a "head temperature" gage
- and to ignore the coolant temperature, i don't know, it's
- running at 200 - 210 in january, i can't ignore that.
-
- so i would appreciate any suggestions.
-
- BTW Ford told me that it was okay for the car to overheat
- into the HOT range for short periods, but that was when
- the car was under warranty.
-
- any suggestions would be appreciated.
- i'd like to fit an oversize radiator/fan into the car if possible
- or an extra-heavy duty water pump, but these don't seem to be
- available.
-
- any info would be greatly appreciated.
- thanx a lot.
