- This is asked enough, the answer should be in the FAQ. Look for
- Mitchell's "Computerized Engine Controls" at the public library,
- or a Chilton's manual with similar name. It tells you how to do it
- with a simple volt-ohm meter hooked up to the STAR diagnostic
- connector under the hood. I have the same car/engine (87 Topaz)
- and have done all this before.

- The book shows you how to run the test. The error codes that show
- up in the test lead you to a step-by-step diagnostic that pinpoints
- the cause of the problem. Not all problems reveal themselves by
- showing a fault code but a problem such as yours should.

- This stuff is a lot easier to use than you think, it is like following
- a recipe. Don't let these $60/hour monkeys or the Haynes manual
- scare you off. If you understand computers enough to work at a
- computer company this stuff is child's play by comparison, but you
- have to approach it with the can-do attitude.
