- Howdy!
- I recently purchased a Sony WM-FX55. Except for a slight problem
- it had with FF 90 minute tapes, I loved it. Still, I *did* pay for a
- working model to I took it in to be serviced. The problem was that
- on 90 minute tapes, it would frequently refuse to fast forward. I'd
- hit the FF button and it would make a funny noise and then just stop.
- If I had hit FF while it was already playing, then it would reverse
- the direction of playback. (REW in the other 'direction'
- would produce the same trouble. On this walkman, FF and REW are relative
- to the current playing direction.) Anyway, I had it serviced and it
- came back WORSE!! Not only was the original problem still there, it now
- played slow. It was falling behind about 3sec/min (comparing it to my
- deck at home).
- I've taken it back and hopefully they'll get it right this time.
- Anyway, has anyone else had this sort of trouble with (a) this model
- of walkman and/or (b) Sony's service? I find it amazing that the unit
- came back to me worse after being 'repaired'. And one of the
- service reps gave me this incredibly lame excuse about why she
- didn't catch the slow playing after the first 'repair': this walkman
- has an in-line remote and the headphone plug isn't the standard 1/8
- inch plug. She said that since she has normal headphones and didn't
- have an adaptor around, she couldn't actually *listen* to the repaired
- unit. Well, this is at the Sony 'museum/shop' in downtown chicago
- where just downstairs from where i spoke to this woman, i saw the
- very same model of walkman on display with, you guessed it, an
- adaptor plug so that shoppers can listen to it with various headphones.

- Gak!
