- Hello, everybody!
-
- I am currently in the process of building a quality audio/video
- system. I plan on getting the audio right first, and then perhaps adding
- surround capability later.
-
- My main concern is that I not get a surround system that will
- degrade the overall sound quality of the movie that I am listening to.
- I have a friend who only rarely uses his surround setup because it is
- noticeably less euphonic than a simple stereo setup.
-
- I have no interest in getting a processor, subwoofer, etc.,
- that will sound real impressive to my friends but distracts from the
- presentation of the movie. I am therefore wondering whether or not it
- is worthwhile to spend an extra $2k on a plain Dolby setup. I would
- probably be thrilled with a THX setup, but just don't have the means
- to plunk down $5000+ on a such a system. Unless THX component prices
- start to come down a little, I can't see it in my immediate future.
-
- I would be interested in hearing the reactions of those who
- have decided to add surround capability to their current system. Are
- you satisifed with it? Do you use it for all you movie viewing? What
- would you do differently if you had the opportunity to start over?
-
- Wistfully yours,
-
- -Cal
