- Nope the stability of the disc rotation doesn't. The transport uses a small
- amount of buffer memory and oscillator to form a feedback loop to go back to
- the disc servo to keep the "average" dataout rate to be the same as the data
- coming out from the buffer. Well, as long as they don't totally screw things
- up in the servo loop, the data should come out from the transport at the
- oscillator's frequency and accuracy. So CD rings DON'T HELP. Impedance
- matching between TRANSPORT & DAC is another matter. Regarding the Pioneer
- Stable Platter, I don't see any real advantage to it except that the dust will
- not fall onto the lens. They sounding smoother results from the stupid "Legato
- Link" filter that rolloff high about 4dB at 20kHz (I borrowed one these and
- tested it in my system). Ok, with a lot of "euphonic distortion" discussion
- floating around in this net, I might say that the Legato Link might be euphonic
- to some people. But accurate it ain't and you can do very close to ideal with
- $20 off the shelf digital filter chip. Legato Link is the thing that is
- to blame (praise?) for the smoothness you hear from Pioneer CD player.
