- It was suggested that DCC has an advantage over DAT due to the complexity
- of the rotary head design. Somehow they can get VCR's into stores for well
- under $200. A DAT mechanism is smaller, and while the tolerances may be
- higher, it takes less physical material to manufacture a DAT transport
- then a VCR transport. I speculate that DAT could theoretically bottom out
- at around $100.00.

- Likewise, a DAT tape uses somewhat less physical material then a DCC tape.
- This would seem to tip the manufacturing advantage to DAT, for blanks at
- least. A factory running at capacity should be able to produce DATs
- DATs cheaper then DCCs. Of course, raw material is far from the
