  18. The short version is that "pdaxs"/techbooks is the most publicly
  19. available system for Internet access in the Portland area. Information for
  20. that system at the end of this message.

  22. A slightly longer version is that there are quite a few Internet sites
  23. out there that people don't advertise but did respond (Thanks!). If you
  24. find that for some reason techbooks doesn't work for you, then you might
  25. try posting to these groups and "ask around". Your mileage may vary.

  29. "pdaxs" operates at 1200 or 2400 baud at 8 data bits, no parity,
  30. 1 stop bit.  The modems all support MNP-5 or lower.  The main phone 
  31. number is (503) 220-0636, and there are currently seven other lines 
  32. behind it.  Enter "bbs" when confronted with the menacing "login:" 
  33. prompt, then enter "new" to setup a new account.

  35. "pdaxs" is free.  If you'd like additional features, additional
  36. time, or just want to support public access usenet, you're encouraged
  37. to subscribe.  "Green" subscribers pay $30/year and get 90 minutes a day
  38. with Waffle, including access to all groups and file directories.

  40. "Silver" subscribers pay $60/year ($20/3 months) and get a shell account, 
  41. download privileges, and more.  "Gold" subscribers pay $120/year ($40/3
  42. months) and get all the benefits of a silver subscription, plus full 
  43. access to the Internet, including ftp, telnet, Internet Relay Chat
  44. (irc), and Multi-User Dungeon games (muds).
