  13. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has an opening for a
  14. Computer Software Engineer.  The candidate will provide computer support
  15. for the instructional, research and administrative activities of the
  16. department. The duties include:
  17.  
  18. -  General support for Novel network, Sun Workstations, and Tops.
  19. -  Administer the operation of the instructional laboratories.
  20. -  Software installation.
  21. -  look after network printers and resolve any hardware or software          
  22.    problems.
  23. -  Coordinate repairs.
  24. -  Evaluate present and future needs.
  25. -  Provide training for staff (TeX and WordPerfect currently in use)
  26. -  Write macros and programs (TeX and dBase currently in use) 
  27.    to simplify applications.
  28. -  Act as liaison with Computing Services, Computer Store, and Science   
  29.    Technology Centre.

  31. The duties of the position require experience with MS-DOS and MacIntosh
  32. with Ethernet and Appletalk hardware.  Experience with Sun UNIX computer
  33. systems is also a requirement.  A thorough knowledge of current processor
  34. networking technology (Novel, Tops, Ethernet); of programming languages,
  35. structured programming methodology and of available applications
  36. software;  skill in installing, running, maintaining and updating machine
  37. level, system control, level and network level, software; good interpersonal
  38. skills.

  40. The above is normally acquired by: the completion of an Honours (4 year)
  41. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a minimum of three years of related
  42. work experience.
