- OK, that's a good start.

-
- First, you don't need a Unix machine. There are lots of boxes on the Internet
- that could help you, and many don't run Unix.
-
- One way to do this painlessly would be to join the _existing_ store-and-
- forward Internet-addressible network by using UUCP. There are lots of
- free UUCPs out there. I'd be amazed if there wasn't one for the Apple II
- yet. Even if there isn't, it should not be hard to port something like
- UUPC or smail/PC. (I assume these are IIgs's, not IIe or II+'s?)
-
- The other thing is that you don't need a domain for testing; you could use
- bang paths. Also, you should try talking to any existing domainized UUCP
- site to see if they are willing to subdomain for you. Many might be willing
- to help.

-
- I admit that this sentence confused me. What in the world does UUCP and
- Internet store-and-forward have to do with the OSI standards?
-
- Methinks you've been reading too many academic networking textbooks. :-)
- The seven-layer model is prescriptive, not descriptive, and it isn't
- meaningful for non-OSI protocols. (IMHO, of course...)
-

-
- I can't speak for CWRU on this, but CWRU does provide UUCP feeds to a few
- sites, so that those sites will provide UUCP connectivity to the rest of
- Cleveland. The problem is that no one here in the network services group
- is likely to want to implement a custom protocol to talk to your network.
-
- You could try talking to the CWRU Dept. of Computer Engineering and Science
- to see if there are any undergrads looking for projects who might want to
- work on this.
-
- Beyond that, you'll probably have the most luck with area UUCP sites. There
- are a lot of them, many of them have "gone domain" already, and most are
- willing to offer more feeds. You'll have the easiest time if you are willing
- to speak UUCP to them, but some of them might be willing to consider other
- protocols. To find area UUCP sites, go look in comp.mail.maps for the
- u.usa.oh.1 and u.usa.oh.2 UUCP maps and look through them for sites in the
- area.
-
- Big sites that you might want to try first include ncoast, nshore, wariat,
- hernix, cwru, neoucom, skybridge, and fmsystm. Many secondary sites might
- also be willing to help. Check the maps to find them, since there are too
- many for me to try to list them here.
