- The STC is the largest and the most active at the local level. It
- puts out a professional magazine and several smaller newsletters.
- its big event is an annual conference that attracts, as I recall,
- something in the range of 1500-2000 participants. There are also
- regional (multistate) and area conferences under its purview.

- The IEEE has a Professional Communication Society; contact the new
- membership chair, Dave McKown, at d.mckown@ieee.org for more info.
- It's smaller and a bit more oriented towards the military-industrial
- complex, whereas the STC feels as though it's dominated by the
- computer industry. They put out a refereed journal and have an
- annual conference that attracts a few hundred people.
