  29. I think we could be getting confused here.

  31. When I talk about indexing by hand, I'm referring to going through the
  32. proofs and writing down entries somewhere on a list. If someone needs
  33. to insert a page, all the entries get stuffed up.

  35. When using a computer, I am not talking about making one of those
  36. horrible keyword indexes where someone has entered a list of words and
  37. the index consists of every incidence of those words.

  39. I use a computer {xe "Index:with computer"} to index by entering tags
  40. {xe "Tags:entering index tags"} {xe "Index:tags"} throughout the text.
  41. The tags contain the information that I want shown in the index entry.
  42. {xe "Index:compiling list"} The computer then compiles the index for
  43. me.
