- I think we could be getting confused here.

- When I talk about indexing by hand, I'm referring to going through the
- proofs and writing down entries somewhere on a list. If someone needs
- to insert a page, all the entries get stuffed up.

- When using a computer, I am not talking about making one of those
- horrible keyword indexes where someone has entered a list of words and
- the index consists of every incidence of those words.

- I use a computer {xe "Index:with computer"} to index by entering tags
- {xe "Tags:entering index tags"} {xe "Index:tags"} throughout the text.
- The tags contain the information that I want shown in the index entry.
- {xe "Index:compiling list"} The computer then compiles the index for
- me.
