- That's exactly right. You can still deduct business expenses that are
- not directly related to the use of your home (i.e., you'd spend them on
- an office located anywhere).

- So long as it is vaguely reasonable, you can use either a percentage of
- total area used for business, or a number-of-rooms method of one or
- more rooms is given over to the business. You can depreciate and
- deduct part of your home if you own it, but this decreases your basis
- in the home, and thus increases your capital gain when you sell.

- They can, and do, schedule office audits of home businesses. I got
- audited, and they asked to come out and see my office. I protested,
- and eventually got the case turned into a correspondance audit; I sent
- them photos of the office, and they allowed the deduction.
