- Just a brief comment about radicals (left and right):
-
- It's my (pretty simple minded) belief that "normal" is a state that
- evolves only after a long period of "pulling" by radicals on both sides of
- an issue. As long as there are Duponts and GEs and USFSs acting in wonton
- disregard of what any reasonable person would favor, there HAVE to be those
- that (perhaps) over-react in the other direction.
-
- I have a (great) dog, and I would fight to keep him, but I don't think
- research where a monkey sits with his skull cap removed resonding to stimuli
- is reasonable. Therefore, I think PETA is serving an important purpose.
-
- I think they should leave a few ancient forests, but I don't insist we stop
- all lumber harvesting. Therefore I think Earth First! serves an important
- purpose.
-
- I think killing rhinos for their horns or whales for (replaceable) oil is
- wrong, and therefore GreenPeace has my support, even if I don't think
- ramming nuclear convoy escorts is appropriate.
-
- If everyone on the radical left disappeared tomorrow, I'd want to know how
- they did it, because I wouldn't want to be left behind in a world driven by
- the much more powerful (and lower profile) extremists from the right.
