- We enjoy the original "Good Dog, Carl!" and treat it as pure
- fantasy. It has a fell of originating by someone asking a
- group of preschoolers what they would do if, for pretend,
- they were left home alone. And the preschoolers kept coming
- up with more and more mischievous and preposterous activities.
-
- First, Baby and Carl jump up and down on Mama's bed. Then they
- climb on her dresser and play with her toiletries and dress up
- in them. Then Baby goes down the laundry chute (Dangerous --
- lucky there's a big pile of laundry to land on!) to the basement.
- Carl puts on some music and dances, while Baby watches. Baby
- goes for a swim in the aquarium, as Carl hold him up (Dangerous!
- Could drown!). They raid the refrigerator, pulling out cream
- and cookies and chocolate syrup (What a mess!). Then Carl
- gives Baby a bath, and blows him dry with the blow-dryer.
- Back to bed for baby, while Carl straightens up the rumpled
- bed, the messy dresser, and cleans up the mess on the kitchen
- floor. (Good dog, cleaning up!)
-
- Wiyh no words in the book (except very start and very end),
- we page through the book, describing the story to our
- toddler Kurt at our own rate. And adding our own editorial
- comments on our opinions of what the characters are doing.
-
- And sometimes Kurt "reads" the book himself, murmering "uh-oh!"
- at the appropriate parts.
-
- It's a cute book.
