- I think index funds make a lot of sense to people like me who do not view
- long-term investing as an activity where one "wins" by "beating" the market.
- The bottom line is that there are *some* managed funds which will consistently
- (i.e. over a 30 year period, say) beat the market index (S&P 500 or MidCap 400
- or Russell 2000), but the trick is picking these funds today!

- The fact remains, though, that there is an emotional element to investing
- and--let's face it--index funds are about as exciting as a bowl of oatmeal. My
- strategy is to have index funds as the core of my portfolio and then choose
- some stock-picking funds for that adrenalin fix.
