  19. First, let me say that I am not trying to change your opinion of
  20. residential schools, especially for yourself.  I would, however,
  21. like you to consider the fact that a national residential school
  22. for the blind with an enrollment of 250 would need only five
  23. students from each of the fifty states.  Please excuse me for
  24. saying so, but it appears as if you are basing your beliefs about
  25. residential schools entirely on the basis of what would be good for
  26. a child like we were.  That's just not taking into consideration
  27. the fact that we all have different needs.  Five blind children
  28. from each state going to a residential school that caters to blind
  29. children with high scholastic abilities who may not have an
  30. environment in his or her own, perhaps, very small town which would
  31. enable him or her to excel would not harm the state residential
  32. schools for the multi handicapped blind child, nor would it harm
  33. the main streaming concept in the least.  It would just give one
  34. more option to best meet the needs of a small number of capable
  35. blind children unable to cope because of home or other
  36. environmental disabilities that you and I do not have.  Please
  37. expand your thinking to include the needs of others not quite as
  38. lucky as we are.  Gaining total acceptance can only be achieved by
  39. totally accepting others.
