- Hello everyone;
-
- I have been lurking in the shadows of this echo for some time now,
- and I have even answered a few posts directly. Now I think it is
- time to come out of the shadows to say hello to everyone and to ask
- my first question.
-
- I am 29 years old and partially sighted. I have always walked a
- fine line between working "normally" in the sighted world and
- having to find alternate ways of doing things to compensate for my
- low vision in doing my studies/work.
-
- In September of 1991 I completed a Ph.D. in chemistry. Since this
- time I have been working in another laboratory doing research here
- at Purdue University in Indiana. My problem is that this type of
- profession requires a great deal of reading and skimming of
- literature. I find that I am having difficulty keeping up with
- this ever increasing reading load. I have tried readers in the
- past, but it is very difficult to get people that have the
- technical background needed to read such materials. I would
- greatly like to hear from others with similar reading
- loads/professions to find out how you have met this challenge.
-
- Sincerely;
-
- Mike
