- GC> My Fire District (Fire & EMS) is about to switch to all
- GP-3000's.
- GC>need to know if you like them or not! I'd appreciate brief replies
- as to
- GC>whether or not you've had trouble with them, or any peculiarities.
- We inten
- GC>to use them as "two-way pagers" with DTMF for the phone patch.
-
- Do you meen the Motorola Radius GP-300? The GP-300 is an 8 channel
- compact portable with scan, "Stat Alert" ANI and paging capability. If
- you are talking about the GP-300 I have had some experience with these
- portables. The portables are quite well made and relatively easy to
- use. The compact size and page decoding capability make them an ideal
- replacement for both portables and pagers especially at the price of
- around $645. The portables have been available in 16 channel version
- outside of the U.S. There are a few drawbacks to this portable; the
- channel scan list is dealer, not user programmed although there is a
- "nuisance channel delete" which allows you to temporarily lock out a
- channel. Each pre-programmed scan list takes up a channel spot;
- meaning 1 scan list leaves you room for 7 channels, also each paging
- decode set takes up one channel. If you use more than 1 set of pager
- tones; ie. "duty crew" and "general" you use up 1 channel spot for
- each.
- The current generation is not capable of handling some of the older
- "Plectron" series of tones, so check and make sure your current
- paging tones are compatible. The radios can be opened up to 16 channel
- slots but I don't believe the radio has FCC type acceptance in 16
- channel format.
- Around the first week of March there is a newer generation of
- GP-300 with enhanced pager capabilities being released by Motorola.
- This version will be capable of handling many of the "Plectron" series
- of tones that the current version can not. It will also be capable of
- handling 2 sets of pager tones in the A/B, A/C format currently
- available in the Minitor I and II pagers.
- All in all the GP-300 is probably the best transiever / pager you
- can find for the money. Hope this helps!
