  18. Do you meen the Motorola Radius GP-300?  The GP-300 is an 8 channel
  19. compact portable with scan, "Stat Alert" ANI and paging capability.  If
  20. you are talking about the GP-300 I have had some experience with these
  21. portables.  The portables are quite well made and relatively easy to
  22. use.  The compact size and page decoding capability make them an ideal
  23. replacement for both portables and pagers especially at the price of
  24. around $645.  The portables have been available in 16 channel version
  25. outside of the U.S. There are a few drawbacks to this portable; the
  26. channel scan list is dealer, not user programmed although there is a
  27. "nuisance channel delete" which allows you to temporarily lock out a
  28. channel.  Each pre-programmed scan list takes up a channel spot;
  29. meaning 1 scan list leaves you room for 7 channels, also each paging
  30. decode set takes up one channel.  If you use more than 1 set of pager
  31. tones; ie. "duty crew" and "general" you use up 1 channel spot for
  32. each.
  33. The current generation is not capable of handling some of the older
  34. "Plectron" series of tones, so check and make sure your current
  35. paging tones are compatible.  The radios can be opened up to 16 channel
  36. slots but I don't believe the radio has FCC type acceptance in 16
  37. channel format.
  38.      Around the first week of March there is a newer generation of
  39. GP-300 with enhanced pager capabilities being released by Motorola.
  40. This version will be capable of handling many of the "Plectron" series
  41. of tones that the current version can not.  It will also be capable of
  42. handling 2 sets of pager tones in the A/B, A/C format currently
  43. available in the Minitor I and II pagers.
  44.      All in all the GP-300 is probably the best transiever / pager you
  45. can find for the money.  Hope this helps!
