- Looking for Case Histories
-
-
- I am a writer for Reader's Digest. (I am also a volunteer fire
- fighter, local fire commissioner, and EMT-Intermediate.)
- I am investigating a story possibility that will recognize
- volunteer fire fighters everywhere and the service they
- perform for no other reason than the tremendous personal
- satisfaction that comes from giving time and effort and putting
- themselves in harm's way for an important cause.
- To give the general public an appreciation of what volunteer
- fire fighters expose themselves to for no compensation, I am
- looking for several dramatic case histories from across the country
- that fit the following parameters:
- 1) A volunteer fire fighter receives a very severe injury from
- which he recovers.
- 2) A fireground incident results in a volunteer's death.
- 3) A volunteer performs a very dramatic rescue.
- If you know of particularly dramatic or poignant candidates
- for any such cases please leave your name and phone number on this
- forum and I will contact you -- or you could netmail me direct at
- FidoNet 1:141/1020; call my BBS at (203) 938-8625 and leave a
- personal message; or drop me a note and/or any relevant news clips
- to the below address. The article will be done
- tastefully, with a positive spin to it. Like the popular TV
- series, we hope it will help raise interest in emergency services across
- the board.
-
- NOTE: The incidents must be fairly recent (within the past year;
- early 1992 to present, the more recent the better. Further, the
- incidents should be directly fireground related. We'd like to exclude
- heart attacks, accidents occurring during training, responding or
- returning form alarms and non-fire emergencies.
-
- Thank you,
-
