-
- Standards within Monroe County (NY) vary depending on whether the
- local ambulance base has a dispatcher or not. Corps' that are
- dispatched by 9-1-1 have arranged for a repeat of their own tones after
- 3 minutes if there is no acknowledgement, followed by dispatch of
- pre-designated mutual aid after another 2 minutes.
-
- Squads with an in-house dispatcher will either wait longer for their
- crew after acknowledgement or call for mutual aid immediately when they
- clearly cannot cover the call (rig already out of service, etc).
-
- Interestingly, the Monroe County 9-1-1 dispatchers cannot mutual aid
- a call for an ambulance company without their permission and must use
- their choice of mutual aid. This is true even if a squad with 2
- ambulances has just been given two calls and is about to receive a
- third. Some squads have made special agreements to cover such
- situations, but there is basically too much "provincialism" among the
- volunteer agencies for automatic mutual aid to be designated by
- downtown.
