I forgot to see where you are from, don't matter.  I'm employed by the
Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.  I do have occassion to meet with
EMS and Fire and Local law enforcement officials from time to time.  To
the best of my knowledge there is no proviate EMS.  EMS is operated by
the county, thru EOC. They are all Paramedics and a very good crew if I
can say that.  They are assigned at different areas thru the county
(i.e. Fire Stations, small old garages etc.).  It seems that there are
openings there more often than anything else in the fields you
mentioned.  Salary - I think, don't hold me on this starts around 19 or
20 a year.  Yes the wages here are really LOW.  We moved here from
Nevada, and had a rough go of it at first.  My wife runs her own boat
charter business, and she makes way much more than I do, but it's not
steady (can't count on a monthly salary).  So I stay with the State for
the benefits and the salary is about 26 annually.   I run a charter boat
on the weekends and during the evenings in the summer.
The Lee County Sheriff will most likely being hiring in the next few
weeks, thats all I know right now.
We live on Pine Island in St. James City.  I have close friends that
live in the Cape.
