  15. Burdines (a Fla dept store chain) once asked me to sign an unsigned
  16. credit card (I did).  When I subsequently (ams purchase!) noticed the 
  17. clerk very carefully comparing my new signature on the card with that on
  18. the reciept I remarked "of course they match".  She then politely explained
  19. that they have to verify signatures on each transaction because they
  20. had a lot of fraud.
