  15. A rally was held at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo on January
  16. 20 to protest the allied bombing of Iraq. About 50 people
  17. gathered in front of the gate, read out a statement
  18. condemning the attacks, and then tried to give the 
  19. statement to the guard, who told the demonstrators to
  20. call the embassy staff. They called, and were told by
  21. the Political Section that they needed to make an appoint-
  22. ment three days in advance.

  24. The gathered citizens then chanted protests against the
  25. attacks, against the "invasion under the name of the
  26. United Nation," and called for the U.S. to stop its aid
  27. to Israel.

  29. Another rally was held on the 14th, with about the same
  30. number of participants.
