- A rally was held at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo on January
- 20 to protest the allied bombing of Iraq. About 50 people
- gathered in front of the gate, read out a statement
- condemning the attacks, and then tried to give the
- statement to the guard, who told the demonstrators to
- call the embassy staff. They called, and were told by
- the Political Section that they needed to make an appoint-
- ment three days in advance.
-
- The gathered citizens then chanted protests against the
- attacks, against the "invasion under the name of the
- United Nation," and called for the U.S. to stop its aid
- to Israel.
-
- Another rally was held on the 14th, with about the same
- number of participants.
