  21. zmodem through the pdp-11s is generally a lose.  there are occasional
  22. hacks that people do to get it to work, but merit has never understood
  23. that people want to do high speed modem transfers, and so nothing
  24. has really been supported.

  26. your best luck at getting transfers into CAEN is to join the public
  27. access ip nets that are starting up around town; for $20/mo you can
  28. get a flat rate service through Msen which gives you a "disconnected"
  29. (Msen network only) network number and an account on our shell access
  30. system.  from those two you can shoot files back and forth no problem.
  31. I have seen the "proxy ftpd" stuff for talking through firewalls and
  32. soon as there's a spare moment we'll be running that so you can do
  33. direct FTPs even tho you're not **really** connected to the net.

  35. it is time for people to stop putting up with the extreme goofyness
  36. of the merit dial up system and apply their modems to more productive
  37. uses.  by propping up their paleolithic systems you perpetuate the
  38. ancient regime.
