- In this era of tight budgets, government deficits and ongoing cutbacks,
- it's good to know that there's one thing we have no shortage of:
-
- CCCCC OOOOO M M EEEEEEE DDDDDDD Y Y
- CC CC OO OO M M M M EE DD DD Y Y
- CC OO OO M M M M EEEE DD DD Y Y
- CC OO OO M M M EEEE DD DD YY
- CC CC OO OO M M EE DD DD YY
- CCCCC OOOOO M M EEEEEEE DDDDDDD YY
-
- Did you know that:
-
- * Canada is a net exporter of comedy
-
- * No provincial government has ever announced a comedy cutback
-
- * Canada has an international reputation for being kind of funny
-
- * Production of comedy is safe, clean and almost never involves the
- use of toxic or radioactive material
-
- Where does all this comedy come from? We don't grow it on farms, dig
- it out of the ground, or (heaven forbid) catch it in the ocean... so what
- is the origin of this tremendous natural resource? Well, research has
- identified several possible sources:
-
- * Canadian politicians are much funnier than the American, French or
- Iraqi leaders, and are almost as funny as the British Royal Family (!)
-
- * Canadian currency is extremely funny, and getting funnier by the day
-
- * Our national symbol, the beaver, is one of the funniest animals
- in the world (much funnier than the American eagle or the Russian
- bear)
-
- By now you're probably thinking, "Wow, this is all very exciting, but what
- does it have to do with me?"
-
- Good question. The answer lies in one of the most important and often
- overlooked facts about the new Canadian Comedy Industry:
-
- * Waterloo, Ontario is one of the leading centers of comedy research
- in the world
-
- That's right -- comedy research is being actively conducted right here in
- our community! As a result of ongoing experimentation, new and exciting
- forms of comedy are being developed that will continue to enhance Canada's
- image as a comedy leader.
-
- You can help. This Thursday night at 8 pm at the KW Live Theatre Building
- a group of talented improvisational performers will actually be manufacturing
- comedy! This pilot program may someday lead to massive comedy factories
- employing hundreds of former Labatts workers, churning out comedy by the
- truckload for the growing export market.
-
- The performers we have this week are experienced, highly trained
- professionsals, who have been polishing their comedic talents in
- preparation for this performance. Among them are Paul McKone, Kimberly
- Motz, Andrew Rukavina, Karen Smith and Jonathan Aiken.
-
- By coming out and laughing at these gifters creators of mirth, you will be
- contributing to the new humour-based economy that will be the lifeblood
- of Ontario in the years ahead.
-
- So remember -- 8 pm this Thursday, at the KW Live Theatre Building (on
- Princess Street in Waterloo, between King and Regina).
-
- The future of our province's economy may depend on it!
