- This seems to me to be an example of differences between salesmen. I
- walked into Performance last week with my wife, talked to a salesman I
- have met a couple of months ago while "just shopping," told him I was
- serious about buying, and drove out in a new Toyota. The salesman was
- polite, friendly, and professional to me and my wife and restless
- toddler (and believe me, I worked him hard for hours on the trade). As
- far as price, I whipped out my Consumer's Guide pricing information and
- offered a $500 profit if he would take it. He and the finance guy took
- it to the sales manager and he accepted it, even though they had to work
- a swap with a dealership in Georgia that had the exact model/options I
- was looking for. To quote the sales manager "$500 is nothing to jump up
- and down over, but some one will give it to you; it might as well be
- us." BTW, I asked, and they showed me the invoice.
-
- Their setup did seem strange, though. As Ken mentioned, the salesman
- didn't do much once negotiations started. A finance guy did most of the
- legwork from that point on, even though I didn't use any of their
- financing.
-
- On the other hand, I had a poor experience at Bill Penney just days
- before the Performance deal. The salesman was OK (although relatively
- ignorant about the car), but when the sales manager was an condescending
- jerk who wouldn't budge from his markup. However, a friend in the
- office bought a Toyota there a couple of months ago and is perfectly
- happy.
