- Hi everyone. My Xenix-Wyse50-RealWorld-Function key problem
- is finally fixed. I want to thank everyone who responded to my
- message, especially :
-
- Jeff French, Alan Wendt, George Colt, David Jarvis, and Bill
- Cooney.
-
- Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help.
-
- The problem turned out to be easier then expected. One of
- the first things I tried was calling their modem using Procomm+
- and it's Wyse-50 terminal emulation. It worked fine, even the
- function keys. The fact that it worked fine through the Modem
- made it obvious that Termcap/Terminfo was working fine. When I
- finally got a chance to get down to the site in Rhode Island, it
- only took me about 20 minutes to fix the problem. The system has
- a UPS interface connected to the first serial port, and the Modem
- is on the second serial port. The terminal is driven by a
- Computone 4-port serial card. As I mentioned in my initial
- message this company was left with no documentation whatsoever.
- However, they did have the Computone driver disk which I
- installed long ago and it seemed to work fine with the terminal
- (except, of course for the f-keys). While on site yesterday, I
- found a couple of files that seemed to go with the Computone
- card. One was called ic_install in /etc. I ran this program and
- it let me choose the card type, terminal type, etc. I had
- already (again, long ago) fixed the entry in /etc/ttytype, but
- the problem was that the ic_control file was set for a different
- card, the 8 port version! It must have selected this by default
- when it was installed. I also think that the terminal type
- wasn't set correctly in the Computone ic_control file even though
- it was set in /etc/ttytype.
- Anyway, it took a couple of tries because the first time I
- changed the terminal type to "Wyse-60 full features" or something
- like that. I had to go back and change it to "Wyse-60 no
- Intellikeys". I'm not sure (because I have never seem any
- documentation for this card) but I think the "Intellikeys" thing
- is to allow virtual terminal screen swapping on a remote
- terminal. But, the function keys did work after changing it to
- "Wyse-60 no Intellikeys" and executing ic_init.
- By the way, just as a funny side note, the Computone card
- initialization program, ic_init, won't initialize the board if
- getty is running on the ports unless you specify the override
- switch. I thought it was funny that the switch is "-please" ! :)
-
- Thanks to all those who responded.
