- Hi there,
-
- I'm trying to set up a SCO OpenDesktop machine as a news server - having
- obtained the nntp binaries from ftp.c-mols.siu.edu the nntp daemon seems to be
- working and talking to the outside world. Unfortunately it has no newsgroups to
- offer. I understand you can use the provided nntpxfer to transfer news from
- another server - but the SCO restriction on filename lengths means that it
- can't store the details of the last successful invocation in a file, as you are
- suggested to do. Even if you get round this by providing the last invocation
- details on the command line, it just dies. No error message or anything.
-
- Does anyone have any ideas ? Is there a way round the restriction on file name
- length ? (I suspect that's not the problem anyhow). Do I have to have a `news'
- account set up and run nntpxfer from that ? Or am I barking up the wrong tree
- entirely ? Has anyone got this to work ??
-
- yours exasperately,
- Andy
