- Ultrix world!

- We have a couple of DECstation 2100s that we will be placing into a
- fairly uncontrolled and hostile user environment. We would like to be
- able to have a hardware password to get at some of the more fun console
- commands. We want to prevent these machines from getting into single
- user mode unless the person knows the hardware password or some other
- such method to get to single user mode. All it takes is some
- enterprising user to unplug the machine turn it on, and boot to single
- user mode to muck up that machine. It doesn't take much more to figure
- out some commands and get some nfs partitions mounted and then go about
- wiping them out. I realize a hardware password will probably only slow
- down someone who is really good, but I don't think we have anyone on
- campus like that at this time. Any pointers anyone can give about a
- firmware upgrade that will do this for us, without going to a 5000/xxx,
- I would like to hear about it. Aside from that, if there are other ways
- to do something like this, I would like to hear those also. Thanks.
