- Folks,
-
- I'm running Ultrix 4.3 on a Personal DECstation 5000/25. In doing
- so, even when everything is "idle", there is a load average above
- 1.00. For example, if I run top and let all my other processes idle,
- it shows top as the "top" consumer, but it shows the load average
- between 1.15 and 1.5. Why is this?
-
- Speaking of top, why is it that when you ask top to display idle
- processes, it says something bogus like
-
- 281 processes: 57 sleeping, 2 running, 221 starting, 1 stopped
-
- even though
-
- ps aux | wc -l
-
- returns
-
- 70
