- Hello...
-
-
- I've got a couple questions regarding installation and setup of a unix machine.
- Right now I've got a Macintosh IIci which I enjoy thoroughly & couldn't do
- without it. However, I'm a Mathematics major with a minor in Computer Science
- and with these classes I do a lot of Unix programming. I've looked into
- getting A/UX 3.0 and installing that on my IIci, but it's too expensive &
- demands a better computer (with more memory, at least).
-
- So, I've been looking into getting a small, basic, Unix box (probably a
- Motorola 3 Slot or No-Slot (88k Machine, I believe)), and using my Mac as
- a Terminal for it.
-
- Here are my questions: I know I can use NCSA Telnet for the Mac side, but
- what kind of hardware connection am I looking at between my Mac and the Unix
- box? Will I have to get an ethernet card for the ci, or can I use one of it's
- serial ports? I'm not sure what the Unix box will have for communications,
- but I'm assuming serial or ethernet.
-
- I'm trying to keep the costs minimal... but right now I'm really open to
- anything.
-
- If anyone has any similar experience or ideas, I'd appreciate it if they relay
- their thoughts to me. You can either post it or e-mail me... I'll keep up
- with both.
-
- Thanks,
-
- Jason
