  15. I have a friend who has a 600 Series UniStride Unix system running
  16. Version 2.1 of the OS.  The OS is mostly System V Release 2, version
  17. 2, and has some BSD 4.3 extensions added in.  The company who makes 
  18. this system is now defunct.  The machine has about 25 ports on the back,
  19. similar to phone jacks which are for serial lines.  I have these lines
  20. going out to an RS-232 connector, and into the printer or terminal.

  22. The problem I have is that for 5 years the system has printed, and now
  23. it does not.  If I send data directly to a port, with a lighted display 
  24. on the line, I see data going to the port, but the printer will not print.
  25. If I send data (using cat ) to a terminal, then the data appears fine
  26. with no problems, even ports the have been changed from printer ports to 
  27. terminal ports with the inittab.  The system simply will not print.  I
  28. thought it was a problem with the printer, but 3 printers do not print, and
  29. all have printed in the past, and will print currently with PC's.  I tried
  30. reloading the OS from an old backup that used to print, no luck.  I tried lp 
  31. and lpr, but neither prints (as you would expect if you cannot send to the port).
  32. I tried putting on a null modem cable, and several different cables.  The data always 
  33. seems to get to the lighted connector (the last thing in the line before the
  34. printers' port).

  36. I am lost, and don't even know where else to look.  Can anyone help me 
  37. with this problem?
