  17. Well, the ie device driver that I have written does precisely
  18. this---that's how it determines that the card is actually there!  (It
  19. also reads a description register from the StarLAN cards as a
  20. preliminary determination.  If anyone knows how the configuration
  21. parameters should differ between StarLAN and Ethernet, please let me
  22. know!)
