  27. Thank you, Jack, for your informations. We installed some 200 systems in 1992
  28. at about 40 customer sites. My problem is that a regular installation 
  29. take too long. So we decided to create a bootable image to install new
  30. machines. This images is with AIX, AIXwindows and FORTRAN. All known and
  31. necessary patches are incorporated. This takes down the installation
  32. time to two hours on a desktop model and to 50 minutes on a 580.

  34. Even preloaded machines are no progress because you have to install
  35. most of the software yourself from disk. This takes too long.

  37. In 1992 we saw five upgrades: 3.2.0, 3.2.1, 3.2.2., 3.2.3 base, 3.2.3 extended.
  38. In a worst case estimation this would mean on a desktop model 10 days downtime
  39. (not counting the necessary phone calls and additional downtimes for
  40. essential fixes like the qdaemon patch introduced with 3.2.3). This is not
  41. acceptable.

  44. This must be changed. Are there any rumors what will change with the
  45. announcement in February?
