- I am cross-posting this question on comp.os.ms-windows.setup and
- comp.unix.admin. Hope it's not a FAQ.
-
- In trying to recover pc client disk space, I am considering having
- ms-windows (nfs clients) reference their TEMP directory to (nfs
- mounted) the /tmp partition on the unix file server. I'm uncertain
- as to whether this is a safe or efficient practice (what does ms-
- windows use its TEMP dir for?). Also, does anyone know of contra-
- indications from the server side? My impression is that /tmp is a
- safe place for any system process to save data.
-
- Also, for the windows clients, in order to protect some base program
- manager .GRP and perhaps .INI files onto the file server in order to
- protect from accidental erasure of these files. The reason for wanting
- to do this is to cut down on my time in repairing accidental damage, as
- well as trying to ensure that any user can approach any pc and find
- a basic set of available resources. Its all very well for users to
- customize their environments, but too often well meaning twiddling has
- resulted in damage requireing assistance.
