- These are called inhomogeneous cellular automata; one article which draws
- rules randomly from the set (XOR,AND) for each is Vichniac et al is in
- J. Statistical Physics 45:875-883, 1986.
- (Sorry, don't have the title handy). There are indeed similarities with
- random boolean automata in that the network can be modulated through
- the various phase regimes (fixed point, limit cycle etc.) by varying the
- rule mix just as in random boolean automata.
