- FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
-
- NATO Advanced Study Institute
-
- C O N S T R A I N T P R O G R A M M I N G
-
- August 13-24, 1993
- Parnu, Estonia
-
-
- OBJECTIVES
-
- The Advanced Study Institute (ASI) aims to bring together leading
- researchers and practitioners from industry and academy involved
- in constraint programming.
-
- The ASI seeks to provide a forum to address and discuss the state of
- the art as well as the future trends. The institute is biased towards
- comparison different existing schools and treatments in constraint
- programming, to establish a network of researchers and to encourage
- the build up of new ideas and theories.
-
-
- SCOPE
-
- Topics of the ASI include:
- * theoretical aspects of constraint programming;
- * specification of constraints;
- * constraints and mathematical logic;
- * constraints and interval arithmetic;
- * constraint programming and object-oriented programming paradigm;
- * constraint-based reasoning;
- * consistency and satisfaction of constraints;
- * constraint propagation;
- * parallel and distributed computing with constraints;
- * constraint-based interfaces, languages and systems;
- * applications of constraint programming.
-
-
- INVITED LECTURERS
-
- In the ASI approximately 15 invited lecturers will participate,
- among them:
-
- H. Ait-Kaci (DEC Research Lab, France),
- A. Borning (Washington University, USA),
- R. Dechter (University of California, USA),
- S. Haridi (SICS, Sweden),
- B. Mayoh (Arhus University, Denmark),
- G. Mints (Stanford University, USA),
- E. Tyugu (Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden),
- etc.
-
- Participants (students) will also have the opportunity to present their
- own work with the help of posters as well as oral presentations and discussions.
-
-
- PROCEEDINGS
-
- The results of the ASI are intended to be published in a book from
- the NATO ASI series by Springer Verlag.
-
-
- VENUE
-
- The institute will be held in Parnu, which is easily reached from Tallinn,
- the capital of Estonia, on August 13-24, 1993.
-
- Parnu is a delightful summer resort on the shore of the Gulf of Riga.
- Parnu's 60 kilometres of tree-lined streets were once considered the most
- complete botanical garden of the Russian Empire. Parnu is also famous
- for its international jazz festivals being held every year.
-
- For the participants of the ASI, dormitory rooms will be available in
- a campus. All the attenders are expected to stay for the full duration of
- the institute. The ASI will be followed by the Fifth International Symposium
- on Programming Languages Implementation and Logic Programming (PLILP'93),
- to be held on August 25-27, 1993. More precise information on the symposium
- can be achieved by e-mail plilp@ioc.ee
-
-
- APPLICATIONS
-
- Participation is by invitations only. Persons wishing to apply for attending
- the institute are invited to send:
-
- * full address including e-mail or fax if possible,
- * curriculum vitae,
- * list of publications and copies of major publications if possible,
- * motivation how you would contribute to the ASI,
- * arguments why a scolarship may be justified.
-
- Applications should be sent by e-mail or regular mail to one of the addresses
- below.
-
- The deadline for applications is April 1, 1993. Earlier applications are
- most welcome. Notification will be given by May 15, 1993.
-
- Only a limited number of participants (maximum 80) will be accepted.
- Participants come mostly from the NATO Alliance countries. A certain percentage
- of non-NATO nationals can attend as well as participants from Central and
- Eastern European countries.
-
-
- FEES
-
- To cover living expenses an attendance fee will be charged. It is anticipated
- that the fee will be 3250 EEK (250 USD) for participants from the NATO Alliance
- and Central/East European countries, and 6500 EEK (500 USD) for participants
- from other countries.
-
- The registration fee for industrial participants is 12.000 EEK (925 USD).
- There is no registration fee for academic participants.
-
- Every participant covers his/her own travel expenses. Any health and accident
- insurance is also an individual responsibility.
-
- A limited number of scholarships are available for subsidising those ASI
- students who are unable to obtain support from other sources.
