- In article <1993Jan27.213858.25187@dcc.uchile.cl> jpiquer@dcc.uchile.cl (Jo Piquer) says:
- :
- :
- : We have three Sun 690/MP with four processors each, running 4.1.2
- :
- : We have a CPU upgrade to SuperSparc included, and the question is:
- : Can we replace the CPU chips without changing to Solaris 2 ?
- : Currently I have two answers:
- : One version is OK, no problem.
- : The other is NO, there is no 4.1.2 sun4m support for SuperSparc. Any experiences?
-
- The second answer is correct but may not answer your question completely.
- Basically, there are four SuperSparc 690 systems available:
-
- 690-30, one processor, can run SunOS 4.1.3
- 690-41, one processor, can run SunOS 4.1.3
- 690-52, two processors, can run SunOS 5.1 (in Solaris 2.1)
- 690-54, four processors, can run SunOS 5.1 (in Solaris 2.1)
-
- Note that SuperSparc support was introduced in 4.1.3...which is very
- little different from 4.1.2 (bug fixes and support for some new
- systems).
-
- But your "upgrade to SuperSparc" is probably one of the latter two so
- you'll probably need to run Solaris 2.1 to use it.
