  13. Our research group has an ethernet network consisting of PCs running BW-NFS 
  14. connected to a SUN SPARCstation ELC. We have been backing up or MS-DOS files 
  15. using a tape drive connected to a networked PC but would like to install an 
  16. external SCSI tape drive that we could use to back up everything on the 
  17. server.

  19. Our needs are quite modest. At the moment, we are using approx. 350 
  20. MegaBytes of a 660 MB hard drive and the amount of storage we require is not 
  21. increasing very rapidly.

  23. From the enquiries I have made at the University and at local businesses, 
  24. our options include an EXABYTE, DAT, or QIC drive. The QIC drives are the 
  25. least expensive, but also have lower capacity (the largest QIC drive quoted 
  26. was 525 MB).

  28. I would appreciate any input regarding the reliability, price and durability 
  29. of each of these formats as well as any other feedback which would assist us 
  30. in making the purchase.
