- Our research group has an ethernet network consisting of PCs running BW-NFS
- connected to a SUN SPARCstation ELC. We have been backing up or MS-DOS files
- using a tape drive connected to a networked PC but would like to install an
- external SCSI tape drive that we could use to back up everything on the
- server.
-
- Our needs are quite modest. At the moment, we are using approx. 350
- MegaBytes of a 660 MB hard drive and the amount of storage we require is not
- increasing very rapidly.
-
- From the enquiries I have made at the University and at local businesses,
- our options include an EXABYTE, DAT, or QIC drive. The QIC drives are the
- least expensive, but also have lower capacity (the largest QIC drive quoted
- was 525 MB).
-
- I would appreciate any input regarding the reliability, price and durability
- of each of these formats as well as any other feedback which would assist us
- in making the purchase.
-
- Please reply by email to peter@ach.ucalgary.ca
-
- I will summarize responses.
