  22. All Macs are grouped together to LocalTalk clusters, typically 5 to 10 Macs per  
  23. cluster. In every cluster a Kinetics FastPath is running which is hooked  
  24. directly to our Ethernet backbone. The FP serves 
  25. *    as a bridge between different LocalTalk clusters, thus connecting them
  26.     together logically (i.e. the user doesn't see the Ethernet part)
  27. *    as a gateway for MacTCP packages. These are Internet packages wrapped
  28.     in AppleTalk packages. The FP removes the wrapper and sends them to the
  29.     Ethernet as plain Internet packages and vice versa.
  30. *    as a bridge for EtherTalk packages as they can be send by
  31.     Ethernet-equipped Macs. But, the other Ethernet hosts like Suns or
  32.     NeXTs have to understand the EtherTalk protocol. Up to now NeXT has only
  33.     built in the AppleTalk protocol. EtherTalk is supported on some 
  34.     platforms by CAP but not on NeXT.

  36. To answer your last question, I don't know. But with the distribution of NeXTs  
  37. on university campuses I think it's only a matter of time when this will be  
  38. available.
