- From the information that I have received, Appsoft Image does not "tile"
- its memory usage, so memory consumption is proportional to the size of
- the files opened for editing. You should confirm this with Appsoft,
- since we don't have a copy of Image for testing.
-
- Our forthcoming product, Photosynthesis, uses a memory management model
- based on "windowing" or "tiling" the image, so you only use memory for
- what's being displayed on the screen. The underlying engine was developed
- for use on small-memory systems like Macintosh as well as Sun workstations,
- so this has been a priority in its design. In our experience testing it,
- opening many-megabyte image files does not cause the swap file to grow.
-
- Photosynthesis, for those who don't know, is a full-featured image editing
- program that we are bringing to market. It is based on the Artisan engine
- from MediaLogic. Look for Photosynthesis to be available in coming months
- for $195.00 suggested retail. We don't have an exact release date for it
- yet.
