- Environment: MS/DOS V5.0. When one formats a 3.5" floppy disk (1.44MB),
- at the end of the format (using DOS FORMAT) it tells you the total
- disk space, the total available bytes on disk, 512 bytes in each
- allocation unit, and 2847 allocation units available on disk.
-
- I've got an application where I want to write a LOT of smaller files
- (around 280 files, each file being around 3K bytes) to this floppy.
- The total size required (280 * 3000) is clearly lessthan 1.44MB, yet
- DOS won't let me do it. Not an "insufficient disk space" message, but
- a bogus message about "can't duplicate file entry". I am assuming this
- is because of the insufficient space for *directory* entries?
-
- Is this logical? If so, is there a way (I couldn't find one) to
- increase the size of each allocation unit from 512 to some other
- number?
