- Get a computer with a real BUS architecture. Like a UNIX workstation(SUN,SGI..)
- with some decent power, memory, and a fast bus arch and a fast scsi-2 disk
- subsystem.
-
- A ISA bus won't do it. A EISA bus will theoretically do it, I've never tried.
- A LB system will. Note: you must get a fast-scsi-2 adapter and a fast-scsi-2
- device to even have a chance. There are I believe a couple of higher-end
- controllers which work with IPI and perhaps wide-scsi(20MB/s), but I don't think
- they are economically feasible.
-
- I don't know what level of quality you are looking for, but there are JPEG
- compression cards available.

-
- Depends on what sort of video tape. Professional 1" or 3/4" will record that
- with no real degradation. std VHS and 8mm are near useless in terms of
- detail work. S-VHS is okay. I prefer sony HI-8. The resolution we get is
- 640x480 and very realistic color depth. The Hi-8 has better quality than the
- S-VHS IMHO.
-
- BTW--I do image processing on a SUN and Multimedia on a Quadra 950 and a 486
- DX33 LB EISA machine.
