- I want to install a 114meg ESDI type drive, that came out of an IBM-RT
- PC (model 6151), in a 286 based IBM-AT compatible machine. The label
- on the hard drive says, E114, type 0669. I do not know who is the
- actual manufacturer, but it says "manufactured for IBM". The only
- thing I know from the manual that, it is a 114meg ESDI type drive. Now
- as far as I know, the drives are normally machine independent and with
- appropriate controller card, one should be able to use it in another
- platform. I know, I have to buy an ESDI controller card for AT, but is
- there any special type that I need. The controller card in the RT is
- an Enhanched ESDI type controller and I think it will not work if I
- just put it in AT machine (am I right!). So, before spending money on
- a new controller card, I want to make sure that this hard drive can be
- used in AT type machine (unless IBM did some special modification
- inside the drive elctronics, who knows!). I also need the no. of cyl,
- head, sec etc., to do a low level format if it is possible to use the
- drive in AT type machine with an appropriate controller card. Thanks
- in advance for any sort of help that will make this drive working in
- an AT type machine.
