- I have a Gateway 2000 computer on order (don't we all?) and have ordered the CD DOM drive
- package with it. I also ordered the OS/2 beta and received it before I got the
- Gateway Computer. The beta is on a CD and the installation instructions give CD
- ROM compatibility specs. The Gateway advertisement say the CD ROM drive is by
- Sony and IBM lists a number of compatible Sony CD ROM drives. The also list
- seperately a list of SCCSI Controllers for the CD ROM drives. Until I saw this
- I never thought about what kind of interface the CD ROM drive would have. I
- kind of thought it would probably not be IDE but had'nt considered any
- alternatives. Well I called Gateway to ask and they said the CD ROM drive was a
- Sony model 31A which looks like it has 2 few digits judging by the Sony numbers
- listed in the OS/2 installation notes. They also said the interface was MIDI.
- This I find hard to believe, even if the only thing I know about MIDI is that it
- stands for something like Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Has anyone
- actually ordered and received the CD ROM kit from Gateway? What model number is
- it really? What type of interface is it really, and what is it's model number?
- Finally, is it really possible the CD ROM drive interface is MIDI, or did I get a
- some what unknowledgeable representative on the line?
