  10. I need to get a laptop with a fairly strange set of requirements -
  11. Something with a 486 and lots of ram (not too hard) but it has to have
  12. a 3/4th length expansion slot (8 bit is fine, tho I won't complain
  13. about ISA) - The only thing I can find are the breadbox sized units,
  14. and the Toshiba 6400 - both are line cord dependent and something that
  15. had batteries would be real convienent (I am not expecting great
  16. amounts of battery life, I just want to unplug it for a few min while
  17. moving it from place to place without needing to wait for it to save
  18. my state and retreive it.)  Something with a built in ethernet and a
  19. price tag less than $3k would have me jumping for joy... something
  20. that weighs less than 7 Kg (15 Lbs) would keep me from adding a back
  21. injury to my hand injuries.  (I currently have the board in question
  22. in a 12kg breadbox, and it is a real trial to move around)

  24. Why? I need a home for my DragonDictate card - this is my "keyboard",
  25. I am one of the typing injured - I have to be able to drag it around
  26. with me, it needs 12mb (8 for the speech system, 4 for DESQveiw/X) an
  27. ethernet, MS-DOS - It doesn't need Windoze, color, more than about
  28. 80mb of disk or better than standard VGA resolution. It does need an
  29. international compatible power supply, two com ports (one for the
  30. keyboard cable driver box, and one for a modem...) and a parallel port
  31. (that can be used with one of those ethernet lumps, since I don't
  32. expect to find a machine with ether built in)

  34. Respond by email, I will summarize if interest is indicated. If I
  35. don't hear of anything battery powered, I will buy the toshiba
  36. ($$ouch$$ but it is 5kg) in a few days (I have been quoted $5k with the memory
  37. expansion and the ether adapter)

  39. I urge everyone to grab the FAQ from sci.med.occupational - typing
  40. injuries can happen to you if you aren't careful - it is far better to
  41. prevent it, as I am an example that shows that you can't always cure
  42. it once it happens.
