-
- Well, I called Maxtor tech support today, and got someone on the line that
- could answer my questions.
-
- He said that Maxtor IDE drives are designed for 8.33 mhz bus speed, and
- if they actually work at higher speeds then that is just gravy, but their
- design spec is only 8.33 mhz.
-
- When I asked about local bus he said that they were just now, or were
- about to start to acquire a variety of 486 Local Bus computers to
- test their drives on. (!) At this point I was wondering why they
- just didn't take the receptionist's 486 local bus computer and try
- it, but I didn't ask. Anyways, I thought it was interesting that
- Maxtor really didn't have an answer to the local bus IDE question,
- and if he was telling the truth, that they are a little slow in
- doing some very basic r&d...
