  18.  I'd say yes it does matter.  These QIC80 tape drives, especially the
  19. Colorado are pretty flimsy, low quality items.  They have enough trouble
  20. using a high quality 3M tape properly.  I would hate to see what they do
  21. with an elcheapo generic.

  23.  Granted, if all you want to do is write data to a tape, then they'll
  24. probably work fine.

  26.  The big question is, are you going to be able to restore the data?
