  19. The difference between a 486DX50 and DX2-50 depend on how much you plan to use
  20. your computer and for what. A DX-2 system runs on the chip at 50MHz but for
  21. external access like to the bus or memory it slows down to 25ishMHz.
  22. Performance is about 40 to 60% of that of a true DX50 depending on the
  23. application running. If it is just working off what is in the INTERNAL cache
  24. ram it flies along very close to the speed of a DX50. If the application
  25. require frequent writes to the bus or external cache, system cards, etc its
  26. performance degrades almost to the point of a 25mhz system. But suposedly it
  27. averages out to the 40-60% of a DX50's speed. games and the like won't slow a
  28. DX-2 but stuff like Autocad, DBASE, heavy software drag it a little. The cost
  29. between DX50 and DX-2 50 systems is narrowing rapidly and it just costs a
  30. little more to put together a powerhouse.
